China`s first cross-provincial coalbed methane pipeline has been approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), said China United Coalbed Methane Corp. on Thursday.

The project, with a total investment of 458 million yuan (67.4 million U.S. dollars), would channel coalbed methane from the Qinshui basin of Shanxi Province in north China to Henan Province in central China for use in homes and chemical factories.

There is no clear timetable, but the company said the construction would begin very soon and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009, sources with the company said.

The designed gas transport capacity of the pipeline is 1 billion cubic meters per year. China United Coalbed Methane Corp. would supply for the coalbed methane.

The 98.2-km pipeline would promote the development of coalbed methane in the Qinshui basin and help boost gas supply in areas along the channel, the NDRC said in a statement to the company.

According to www.cs.com.cn, Deputy General Manager of China National Offshore Oil Corporation Wu Guangqi revealed on the "Third World Forum on Chamber of Commerce and Industry " held on the 28th that CNOOC is actively developing new energy and renewable energy, and accumulating solar and hydrogen energy technologies. At present, a series of new energy projects of the company are under way.

Wu Guangqi said that the energy industry has been dealt a heavy blow in the financial turmoil. The oil industry is a risk-intensive and capital-intensive industry. If the financial environment continues to deteriorate, the world oil industry will suffer from ups and downs, resulting in the future fluctuations in oil supply and ultimately affecting the interests of worldwide consumers.

Wu Guangqi pointed out that CNOOC’s present major actions are as follows: through increasing exploration investment and improve technologies to enhance the ability to acquire resources, and the total oil and gas supply volume. In China, efforts have been made to increase resource reserves and production, improve oil recovery factor, and exploitation efficiency, and develop marginal oil fields and small oil fields while probing into natural gas reserves in the deep water of the South China Sea; vigorously developing clean energy by taking the lead to introduce the LNG industry to China, building natural gas arteries in coastal China, dand eveloping LNG power plant and urban pipeline and network; actively developing new energy and renewable energy, especially offshore and onshore wind power industries, and biomass energy, as well as accumulating solar and hydrogen energy technologies; strengthening international cooperation.

Xinhua Net reporters learned on the 28th from China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) that by the end of this September, China`s first HWR (heavy water reactor) nuclear power station, Qinshan Phase Ⅲ Nuclear Power Station has safely generated 60.1 billion kwh on an accumulative basis.

It is understood that construction on CNNC’s Qinshan Phase Ⅲ Nuclear Power Station started in 1998, and was completed and put into production in October 2003. The project consists of two units, with a combined installed capacity of 1,456,000kw. Over the past five years, the two units have maintained safe and reliable operation, with constantly improving operation and management performances. As of the end of this September, Qinshan Phase Ⅲ Nuclear Power Station’s total generating capacity has reached 60.1 billion kwh. Compared with the coal-fired power station with the same generating capacity, it is equivalent to cutting the consumption of standard coal by 19.7 million tons, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 43.03 million tons and sulfur dioxide emissions by 1.76 million tons. Compared with pressurized water reactor nuclear power station, it is equivalent to reducing the consumption of natural uranium by 285 tons.

According to General Manager of Qinshan Phase Ⅲ Nuclear Power Station, as of the end of September 2008, the No.1 unit and the No.2 unit have secured a good achievement of continuous and safe operation without automatic reactor shutdown for 1459 days and 1261 days respectively. Compared with the performance indicators of the 429 nuclear power units in operation in 2007 released by the World Association of Nuclear Operators, the No.1 unit and the No.2 unit rank 30th and 14th in the world respectively. On September 17, 2008, the World Association of Nuclear Operators again recommended 10 management strengths of Qinshan Phase Ⅲ Nuclear Power Station like “Application of Star-rated Management Performance Evaluation System” to the world nuclear power industry when conducting assessment .

Qinshan Phase Ⅲ Nuclear Power Station is the first and also the only HWR nuclear power station in China. Compared with other reactors, HWR with good low-uranium property, can realize on-load refueling, and produce a variety of isotopes. These advantages can complement with pressurized reactor, thus fundamentally improving the competitiveness of nuclear power in economy and environmental protection.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the world`s first 200,000-ton corn prolamine production line with full independent intellectual property rights was completed and put into production on the 25th in Changchun Dacheng Group.

It is understood that corn prolamine is an alternative for fossil fuels. By replacing petroleum with corn to the greatest extent, and thoroughly changing the traditional corn processing concept, it is a sustainable development mode of utilizing renewable energy sources.

Changchun Dacheng Group is the world`s largest producers of lysine. It is understood that the during "10th Five-Year Plan" period, the group, relying on scientific and technological innovation, built the world’s first corn prolamine production line with an annual output of 20,000 tons.

In order to further improve productivity, the group has, for the first time, built an industrial device with an annual production of 1,000 tons of sorbitol cracking catalyst, and a large-scale industrial production line with an annual production of 200,000 tons of corn polyatomic alcohol, and synthesized the widely-used polyatomic alcohol products like propylene glycol and butanediol, thus forming original bio-chemical breakthrough technologies with independent IPR, through technological innovation to grasp vital technologies including the design, preparation, amplification, and synthesis of catalyst, product separation and equipment manufacturing.

It is reported that due to technological breakthrough and innovation, the corn prolamine production line with an original production of 400,000 tons of prolamine has achieved an annual output of 400,000 tons, and realized an annual production value of 4 billion yuan, thus reducing the consumption of 104,000 tons of corn, saving nearly 2.8 billion yuan in investment.
